PV Drilling has selected Keppel's unit Keppel FELS to build Vietnam's first semi-submersible drilling tender assist rig.

The KFELS SSDT 3600E enables drilling tenders to be used next to deepwater floating platforms and can run and sustain station keeping in 5,000ft water depth.

The deal to build the rig, which is worth $200m, will use Keppel's award-winning KFELS SSDT 3600E design, the company said.

The rig includes an eight-point mooring system that enables the rig to stay in position in 6kt currents.

PV drilling will use the rig for four-and-a-half years for Bien Dong Petroleum Operating Company's gas-to-power project Nam Con Son Gas.

The contract for the rig will be finalised next month, with delivery targeted for the last quarter of 2011.
